The Guildford Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) aims to promote classical music within Surrey and neighbouring areas. We run orchestral courses twice a year, choosing exciting repertoire to offer a broad range of experiences to our members. Currently, GYSO runs courses in December and August each year. 

Our Symphony Orchestra courses are open to all players to participate to allow as many young people to participate as possible. We recommend a standard of Grade 6+ due to the nature and intensity of our courses, but we do not audition for these courses.

GYSO courses are aimed towards enthusiastic young musicians aged between 13 and 25. We rehearse over a period of 3 - 4 days, performing a public concert on the final day. By running short and intense courses, we can work outside of term times and allow our members to maintain other holiday commitments. We believe in making music accessible to the whole community, so our courses and concerts are free of any charge for everybody who wishes to be involved, as well as for audience members.
